For Valour a new exhibition dedicated to Durham’s WW1 soldiers awarded the Victoria Cross was opened today by Sue Snowdon, the Lord Lieutenant of Durham, and Cllr John Robinson, chairman of Durham County Council and Mayor of Durham. Among the guests were descendants of some of the recipients featured.
At the heart of the exhibition are seven specially inscribed paving stones commemorating the VC recipients, who were born in County Durham. They will be be laid in the town or village where the soldier was born or brought up, on the centenary of the date the acts of valour took place
